Professor & Students
Doctor of Ministry

Accredited Experienced-Based Program

Many, if not all, of us in ministry have gained experiences walking through ministry and life, and very often we learn important lessons through these experiences.

In the Doctor of Ministry program, FIS faculty will evaluate Lifelong Ministry Experiences gained in non-post secondary educational settings. The Seminary will determine what credit may be given for previous experience toward the completion of the degree program.

Credit by Lifelong Ministry Experience allows a student the opportunity to prepare a Lifelong Experience Portfolio describing specific ministry activities and life experiences and then to document the learning that has resulted from these experiences. For example, students may have created and led ministry programs or may have had training in specialized institutes or other settings, such as vocational training. FIS faculty members will evaluate the written portfolio and determine what credit may be given. Additionally, the faculty will work with the student to develop a program of study for the additional credits required for the degree program.

Domains of Assessment for the Lifelong Experience Portfolio

  1. Christian Education

  2. Compassion/Social/Outreach Ministry

  3. Cross-Cultural Ministry Experience

  4. Evangelism and Missions

  5. Leadership Experience

  6. Administration Experience

  7. Stewardship

  8. Pastoral Work/Care & Counseling

  9. Pastoral Theology

  10. Preaching

  11. Worship/Music Ministry

Students pursue this program mainly off-site, so that they may remain at their jobs in ministry. The program of study is completed through a combination of online courses and independent study, with the option of some intensive classes on-site.
